Cherries May Ward Off Gout

Montmorency tart cherry juice daily for four weeks experienced lower levels of uric acid in their blood, which is a biomarker for inflammation. A 2020 study examined whether tart cherry concentrate affected serum urate levels in people with gout. Fifty people were randomized to receive placebo or tart cherry juice concentrate for 28 days in doses of 7.5 milliliters , 15 ml, 22.5 ml, or 30 ml twice a day for 28 days. At the end of the study, it was determined that the cherry juice had no effect on serum urate levels. During the study, researchers gave 10 healthy women, ages 22 to 40, approximately 45 fresh, pitted Bing cherries for breakfast, and studied the impact the antioxidants in cherries had on fighting inflammation. Participants avoided other high-antioxidant foods that fight inflammation two days prior to the study, including red wine, tea, and certain fruits and vegetables.
Exploring Cherries' Beneficial Phytochemicals

You may have noticed that a lot of the research on cherries involves cherry juice or cherry juice concentrate. Tart cherries are quite sour, and tart cherry juice contains a lot of added sugar to make it palatable. In fact, a cherry juice concentrate used in one of the clinical studies includes 80 calories and 15 grams of sugar in a one-ounce serving. Generally, tart cherries have been found to have higher concentrations of phenolics and anthocyanins than sweet cherries. If you have gout, it’s imperative to restrict your fructose/sugar intake to below 25 grams a day, including from fruit, as fructose/sugar may drive up uric acid levels in your body.
Vitamin C enriched foods
Including foods enriched with vitamin C is another way to maintain uric acid levels. These foods disintegrate uric acid and flushes it out of the body. Include foods such as kiwi, amla, guava, kiwi, oranges, lemon, tomato and other green leafy vegetables.
Diets rich in animal purines are five times more likely to lead to gout than diets rich in plant purines. Indeed, the purines from plants that we eat have not been shown to present any greater gout risk. There is no real evidence, however, that the differences are significant. Although diet advice is a mainstay of gout treatment, mostly it has focused on avoiding purines. There's no real evidence, however, that the differences are significant. Both types of cherries are high in anthocyanins compared to other foods. It may be that we hear more about the health benefits of tart cherries because of the way they're marketed. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has sent warning letters to cherry farmers and manufacturers for positioning tart cherries on their websites as a medicinal food that could possibly help with gout, arthritis, and diabetes. The earliest study regarding the health benefits of cherries was conducted in 1950 in patients with gout.

Other Bioactive Components In Cherries
For people who just have one or two attacks of gout a year, it makes sense just to treat the attacks as they occur.
