The most reliable method for confirming a diagnosis of gout is a test called arthrocentesis, or joint aspiration. Under local anesthesia, a small amount of joint fluid is removed using a needle. Blood tests may also be performed to test for high levels of uric acid in the blood, but these are generally less reliable than arthrocentesis.

Treatment & Care
